Bulgarian President Sends Kazakhstan Counterpart Message of Condolences over Almaty Attack

Sofia, July 18 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev sent to the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, a message of condolences over the Monday attack against law-enforcement bodies that killed at least six people and injured many others, said the President's Press Secretariat.

"I was grieved by the the news of the Almaty attack that took many victims and caused a lot of injuries. The Republic of Bulgaria expresses solidarity with the Republic of Kazakhstan and categorically denounces such horrific acts of violence," the message says.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry urged Bulgarian citizens to avoid travel to Kazakhstan over a severe terror risk. The Ministry said Bulgarians should avoid Kazakhstan until the highest, red, code for terrorist threat is lowered.

Bulgarians who are already in the terrotory of Almaty are urged not to leave their homes.

A state of emergency was declared in Almaty Monday after armed men attacked a police station and a security services building. The authorities suspect that the attacks are the doing of Islamic extremists.
