Bulgarian Interior Minister, FBI Director Discuss Security Environment and Combat against Terrorism

Washington D.C./Sofia, July 19 (BTA) - Meeting Monday in the American capital, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova and FBI Director James Comey discussed the security encironment and the latest terror attacks in Europe and the United States, said Buchvarova's Ministry Tuesday. The Bulgarian Interior Minister is on a working visit to the US for talks on counterterrorism, the combat against organized crime, illegal migration and drug trafficking.

The two sides reconfirmed their readiness to step up the exchange of information between the FBI and the Bulgarian law-enforcement and security services. They specifically discussed such exchange in respect to the persons who are suspected of connections with terrorist operations, money laundering, tax frauds, bank card frauds and cyber crimes.

James Comey underscored the fine cooperation that exists between the two sides and gave a high mark to recent legislative changes in Bulgaria tjay incriminate activities connected with preparing and assisting terrorist acts and training persons for participation in such acts, including those perpetrated by foreigners for the purpose of committing terrorist acts outside the territory of Bulgaria.

Buchbarova briefed the FBI Director on the measures that Bulgaria is undertaking to ensure the security of its border and the management of the migration flows.

Buchvarova's visit continues with meetings with Justin Siberell, the Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism in the Bureau of Counterterrorism at the US Department of State, with the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Chuck Rosenberg, and with Luis Arreaga, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
