DEA Administrator
Calls for More Active Partnership
with Bulgaria

Washington/Sofia, July 21 (BTA) - The US has rich experience in countering drug trafficking and distribution. However, the efforts to be more efficient continue and the partners are of great help in this respect, said Chuck Rosenberg, Acting Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), at a meeting with Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova in Washington, Buchvarova's Ministry said on Thursday.

Buchvarova and Rosenberg discussed some of the joint trans-border operations for busting drug trafficking rings, the important role of the Bulgarian law-enforcement bodies and Bulgaria being a transit country in drug trafficking. Buchvarova underscored that DEA's support for the Chief Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime (CDFOC) contributes to the Directorate's high efficiency. Rosenberg thanked the Interior Ministry for the successful cooperation, which sets an example for the other countries. He singled out the regional conference on countering the distribution of drugs, held in Bulgaria in May with the participation of DEA, Turkey, Romania, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, etc.

He congratulated the CDFOC and the Border Police on the large amount of heroin found at the Lessovo checkpoint earlier this month in an Iranian-registered car.

The interlocutors also discussed the situation in the Balkans and the potential impact of the events in Turkey.

Within her visit Buchvarova is also expected to have meetings at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State, reads the message. /PK/TK
