Three Syrian Nationals Charged with Terrorism in Bulgaria

Sofia, July 27 (BTA) - The specialized prosecuting magistracy has submitted a terrorism indictment against three nationals of Syria to the specialized criminal court, sources from the magistracy said on Wednesday.

The charges against Almohammad Abdulhamid, Al Abdallah Fadi and Al Fandi Yasim, are that as foreigners, nationals of Syria, they entered Bulgaria from Greece on February 7, 2016, with the purpose of participating in a crime - terrorism, as members of the terrorist organizations Muslim Brotherhood and ISIL, including a crime against a foreign country.

The case has been scheduled to be heard on August 2, from 10.30 a.m. The court upheld that the three remain in custody. If convicted, they can receive a prison sentence of up to ten years.

An investigation of the specialized prosecuting magistracy established that three had been granted refugee status in Germany.

Eight witnesses were questioned in the investigation, including witnesses with hidden identities. The phones of the three Syrians were taken and their contents, reviewed, which showed sufficient information about the men's radical intentions. Pictures were found too which proved the intent of the three Syrians to join the two terrorist organizations.

The three have been convicted by the Svilengrad, Southern Bulgaria, Court for an illegal attempt to cross over from Bulgaria to Turkey but have been kept in custody on account of their intention to join the two radical organizations.
