Profile of Migrants in Bulgaria Changes - Interior Ministry Chief Secretary

Malko Turnovo, Southeastern Bulgaria, August 19 (BTA) - The profile of migrants in Bulgaria is changing, Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov said here Friday. He visited this border region to meet with local government representatives.

Expanding further on the profile of migrants, he said that they no longer come from the zones of military conflicts.

He stressed the need of having efficient communication between the local governments and the Interior Ministry units. He also said that the law-enforcers rely on local people to alert them of groups of illegal migrants when they meet any.

Kostov said that people should call the law-enforcers rather than try to deter the illegal migrants on their own.

This was the first of a series of meetings with local government representatives that are scheduled to continue next week.
