Stefan Danailov to Chair Gen. Rumen Radev's Presidential Nomination Committee

Sofia, August 30 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) National Council decided, by a vote of 91 in favour and 14 abstentions, that a nomination committee will nominate and register Maj. Gen. Rumen Radev (Ret.) as candidate for the November 6 presidential elections, BSP Chair Kornelia Ninova told a news conference here on Tuesday.

The nomination committee will be chaired by BSP Deputy Chairman Stefan Danailov. The candidate for vice president will be picked in September, Ninova said.

"The BSP does not give up Gen. Radev's nomination and will be represented on the nomination committee, just as the parties of the BSP-Left Bulgaria coalition," Ninova pointed out. "The nomination committee is the form by which we ensure broad support from non-party entities, from authoritative people in Bulgaria, from personalities in various sectors that complement the BSP's party support for Gen. Radev," she added.

Radev welcomed the dialogue with Turkey on the migrants subject. "A dialogue is indeed needed with Turkey, if anybody imagines that the migrant problem can be solved without a dialogue, they are far from the truth," he commented. "The point, however, is about the form of this dialogue and its authorization," Radev commented. "As far as I'm concerned, the arrangements made with Turkey remain unclear," he noted. The General is puzzled by the words of the Turkish Prime Minister that "certain burdens will fall from Bulgaria's back".

In a Facebook post, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told him when they conferred in Istanbul on August 26: "We will do everything within our powers and capabilities to reduce the burden on Bulgaria's back, related to the refugee crisis. Our competent institutions have already started work on this issue, and I hope that these efforts will produce a result shortly and we will thus relieve Bulgaria."
