Fourteen Illegal Migrants in Rousse Given Conditional Sentences, Fined

Rousse, on the Danube (BTA) - Fourteen Syrian and Iraqi migrants who tried to cross Bulgaria's northern border illegally were sentenced in five days. The court took into consideration the plea bargain agreements the Regional Prosecution Office in Rousse reached with them, the prosecution said.

The perpetrators were given six months' conditional sentences with a three-year probation period and must pay fines ranging between 150 and 200 leva.

The illegal migrants pleaded guilty. They were arrested while trying to leave Bulgaria illegally at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint on September 9 and 10.

The agreements count as effective sentences.
