Reformist Bloc May Seek New Partners

Varna, on the Black Sea, October 1 (BTA) - Meglena Kuneva, was reelected unanimously leader of the Bulgaria for the Citizens Movement (BCM) on Saturday. The conference elected also a National Council and a Supervisory Board and adopted changes to the rules of organization to establish a youth chapter.

Kuneva said that the Reformist Bloc may seek new partners, without specifying which political entities she had in mind.

"I believe in the Reformist Bloc and that it hasn't run its course as a political project," said Kuneva. She asked her fellow party members for a mandate to conclude a new partnership agreement after the presidential elections. She urged for a confederation congress as early as in the beginning of 2017.

Kuneva called for more investments in education so that it  becomes a genuine priority for the government. The battle for the adoption of the counterterrorism law lies ahead and it won't be easy, she said. In her words, it is vital that Parliament passed the counterterrorism bill before approving the budget for 2017, which will set aside finances for its implementation. Among her party's priorities in the following years Kuneva singled out increasing the incomes of Bulgarians and promoting employment. She warned that the risks of marginalization and radicalization of whole groups are genuine and that measures should be mapped out to address these risks.
