National Assembly Chairperson on Leave to Campaign for Presidential Vote

Sofia, October 3 (BTA) - GERB presidential candidate Tsetska Tsacheva will take an unpaid leave of absence as National Assembly Chairperson to campaign for the November 6 vote, GERB National Election HQ Chief and Deputy GERB leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov said after registering the party's candidates for president and vice president.

Tsacheva's running mate will be Vice Admiral Plamen Manoushev (Ret.), a former commander of the Navy.

National Assembly Deputy Chairperson Dimitar Glavchev will step in for Tsacheva during the election campaign, Tsvetanov said.

Taking a question on whether or not Tsacheva is a weak candidate, Tsvetanov said that could hardly be the case given that she is serving a second term as National Assembly Chairperson while also being the first woman to hold that position.

"Looking at the rest of our opponents, I see no one who has held such a government office," Tsvetanov said, noting that Tsacheva possesses the necessary qualities to serve as president as well as a wealth of experience. "I am convinced that her legal background will help her stand out in a possible debate."

Tsvetanov said GERB's election campaign will get officially underway on October 9.
