Authorities Seize Over 3 Million Counterfeit Euro
Sofia, October 5 (BTA) - Three million counterfeit euro have been seized in an anti-organized crime operation, Ivan Geshev, head of the specialized prosecution, told a news briefing on Wednesday. Nine people, who have been arrested in Sofia and Plovdiv, are expected to be pressed with charges by the end of the day.
The printing house was located in the southern town of Plovdiv.
The operation was launched in May 2015 when the authorities were tipped about the activities of the group. One of the men had been tried for counterfeiting money in Germany in 2006.
Europol officers took part in the operation. The fake banknotes have been detected in nearly all EU countries since the beginning of last year.
