ABV Upholds Call for Early Elections

Sofia, November 7 (BTA) - "ABV is upholding its call for early elections because the incumbent government has been exhausted in terms of ideas, policies and personalities," ABV leader and former president [2002-2012] Georgi Purvanov told a news conference on Monday.

Purvanov said that the early elections won't lead to instability and will prop up the country's government.

"I reconfirm ABV's will to work in the current and even broader lineup in the future elections," added Purvanov of the Kalfin presidential coalition which includes seven parties.

He thanked Ivailo Kalfin and Lyubomir Halachev, saying that they were the best pair in the presidential race. According to him it was obvious that during the campaign there were other criteria for the assessment of qualities and of choice.

The ABV leader said that the election result was disappointing and had come short of expectations. Purvanov said that ABV carried out a modern and stylish campaign with ideas unlike some of their opponents. Purvanov criticized the pressure and intimidation used by the incumbent in some regions.

He said the impression was that the elections were agreed between GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party. "It turned out that ABV is the only opposition force and we uphold that there is a need for early elections."

ABV will consult its local organizations who to back in the runoff. Purvanov said that the ABV leadership is reluctant to back GERB but the Bulgarian Socialist Party isn't taking steps to solicit the support of ABV.

Kalfin was absent as he is attending a meeting of the Monti commission in Brussels.
