Socialist Party Tells Outgoing Government to Stop Disposition Transactions and Appointments

Sofia, November 23 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Wednesday urged the outgoing government to stop disposition transactions and appointments. As he communicated the Socialists' call to the press in Parliament, MP Zhelyo Boychev argued that this was only right since the government has lost the confidence of Bulgarian people - apparently referring to the loss of the ruling party's candidate in the recent presidential elections in Bulgaria.

BSP insists that the Defence Ministry must stop the preparation of the sale of 22 ha of lucrative land on the Bulgarian coast which the Ministry allegedly no longer needs.

BSP also complained of "mass purges" at the Defence Ministry.

Mentioning examples of wrongful appointments, Boychev said that two deputy ministers of foreign affairs and the permanent secretary of the same ministry have been appointed to ambassadorial positions. Also, the Foreign Ministry has started making appointments to all key departments.

In the VMZ Sopot ordinance company, a large part of the Board of Directors have been replaced and a GERB representative appointed.

"They are appointing politically loyal but incompetent people," said socialist Dragomir Stoynev.

In one example, the wife of Nickolay Mladenov, the Foreign Minister in the first government of Boyko Borissov, has been hired by a project company under the Energy Ministry.
