Freedom and Dignity People's Party Elects New Leader

Sofia, November 27 (BTA) - The delegates to the first national congress of the Freedom and Dignity People's Party (FDPP) elected Orhan Ismailov as its Chairman on Sunday. The outgoing deputy defence minister is replacing Korman Ismailov, who will be the party's Deputy Chairman.

Addressing the congress, Orhan Ismailov outlined the key principles to which the party has adhered since its establishment. "We founded the party convinced that we will stand up for the principles of freedom and dignity for all Bulgarian citizens regardless of ethnic origin, religion, cultural background, sex and race, regardless of the differences among us."

The former chairman, Korman Ismailov, delivered a report on the party's achievements in the four years while he was at the helm.

Founded four years ago by defectors from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the FDPP is part of the Reformist Bloc, a junior partner in GERB's government coalition.
