Socialist Leader Ninova: A New Government within Current Legislature Is Doomed

Sofia, December 17 (BTA) - Speaking ahead of a meeting of the Bulgarian Socialist Party National Council, leader Kornelia Ninova said that a new government of Boyko Borissov, the Reformist Bloc and the Patriotic Front is doomed before its creation and it won't have a long life.

"If this government is formed, it won't be at the will of the Bulgarian people, who said 'no' to the government of Boyko Borissov. It will again be at the will of foreign masters against Bulgaria's national interest," said Ninova.

According to the socialist leader, the aim of the new cabinet is to continue what it has begun: 16 billion leva debt, corruption concerning child vaccines, shady deals in the armed forces, and sold out national interests with the nomination of Kristalina Georgieva.

Ninova said that all this is being done allegedly to meet the expectations of the November 6 referendum and introduce majoritarian voting. She said that the European People's Party wanted GERB to stay in power in return for obedience. as Borissov agreed to continue sanctions against Russia and the current migration policy.

In Ninova's words, GERB's downfall had turned the party into a spare tyre of the Reformist Bloc in the name of power and money.

Ninova said that the Bulgarian Socialist Party is busy with the preparations of the early elections. "We are the only alternative," she said.

Ninova called for more power for the people at the expense of elites and for a restriction on the number of mandates of the party leader and representatives in the branches of power.

At the beginning participants in the National Council meeting observed a minute of silence for the victims in Hitrino.

The meeting approved the criteria for nominating MPs to the 44th legislature.

Local chapters are recommended not to nominate MPs who have served for three consecutive terms, or 12 years in the legislature. Krassimir Yankov told journalists that this is not a vendetta but a drive to renew the party.

Under another recommendation, local chapters are advised against nominating for MPs one candidate on two lists as well as acting mayors.

The main criteria prioritize the public authority and electability of candidates. Candidates are also required to hold at least a master's degree and have a high professional qualification, legal knowledge, communication skills, and social sensitivity. Besides candidates should possess integrity, political responsibility, loyalty, social experience and influence through an outspoken civil stance.

An advisory model of the parliamentary group has been approved and the members of the national election campaign headquarters have been confirmed. The headquarters will be headed by leader kornelia Ninova.

The party's National Council adopted an appeal to the former members of the party to return in the name of the common cause to change Bulgaria. Krassimir Yankov said that the appeal was not addressed to the leaderships of ABV and the Movement 21.
