European Commission Reiterates It Is 'Not in a Hurry' with Proposal for Bulgarian Candidate for EU Commissioner

Brussels, December 19 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Zheliyazkov) - Asked whether there is a proposal for a candidate for a commissioner with Bulgarian nationality, European Commission Deputy Chief Spokesperson Mina Andreeva said: "We are not in a hurry. It is for the Bulgarian authorities to decide on a candidate and communicate it to us and then we will be able to discuss portfolios or, the way round, we first get proposal for a candidate and then we try to match the candidate's qualifications to a certain portfolio."

By the week's end European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is expected to designate the commissioner, who will be in charge of digitalization. So far, this area was within the portfolio of Commissioner Guenther Jotinger. However, Juncker suggested that Jotinger takes over the budget portfolio, vacated by Kristalina Georgieva.
