Prosecutor General Moves for Disciplinary Dismissal of Senior Magistrate

Sofia, January 4 (BTA) - Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov has motioned the Supreme Judicial Council to open disciplinary proceedings and dismiss on disciplinary grounds a prosecutor with the Supreme Administrative Prosecution Office (SAPO).

The disciplinary proceedings have established that the prosecutor had violated the magistrates' code of ethics and had undermined the reputation of the judiciary.

The SAPO prosecutor maintained contacts with a man who has a criminal record and is on trial for unauthorized possession of firearms and assisted the man's common law partner in court proceedings.

The woman has multiple convictions for fraud and since August 2016 has been serving a 66-month prison sentence.

During the court proceedings the magistrate hired a lawyer for the couple and met with the Sliven District Prosecutor to seek interruption of the execution of the sentence.
