Yes Bulgaria Movement Makes Last-Ditch Effort to Join Election Race

Sofia, February 7 (BTA) - The Yes Bulgaria Movement has accepted a proposal by the Greens to negotiate for a possible coalition to run in the March 26 early parliamentary elections. The decision was made by the party's National Council at an extraordinary meeting late on Monday, according to an announcement in the social media.

The move is expected to enable the newly established Yes Bulgaria to stand in the elections, which seemed impossible after three court appeals were submitted on Monday against its court registration as a new political entity, leaving it no time to register for the elections by the February 8 deadline. The party leader, former justice minister Hristo Ivanov, said two of the appeals were lodged by fictitious persons and the third one was by a person who had tried to create chaos during the constituent meeting of Yes Bulgaria.

Ivanov expressed his confidence that the Supreme Cassation Court will reject the appeals as inadmissible, but this cannot be done soon enough to allow the Yes Bulgaria Movement to register for the elections by the official deadline. According to him, this situation is the product of a provocation against his party orchestrated by the mob.

The announcement about Monday's decision of the party says: "The Greens have shown that they defend the public interests in a principled and consistent way, [support] the reform of the judicial system and protect Bulgaria's nature from the mob and the oligarchs."

Negotiations are also underway for the inclusion of a third partner in the future coalition, the party said. The new coalition will be named Yes Bulgaria Movement Coalition.
