Socialists' Campaign Platform to Cost Lv 4.19 Bln a Year, GERB Estimates

Sofia, February 8 (BTA) - If the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) gets to implement its election campaign platform, it will cost 4.19 billion leva every year. The estimate was made by the GERB party and unveiled at a news conference given by former government members Tomislav Donchev, Vladislav Goranov and Delyan Dobrev on Wednesday.

Dobrev added that the amount does not include about 45 billion leva for the so-called grand slam of energy projects (the Belene nuclear power plant project, a new reactor unit at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, the South Stream gas pipeline, and the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline), which are included in the BSP's platform.

Donchev commented: "The BSP programme will be expensive to all." He urged the Socialists to change their plans. For his part, Goranov said: "It is either that they have no intention of implementing such a programme, or as soon as they deplete the public purse, they will play the only possible card - a rise in taxes.
