Employers: Minimum to Median Wage RatioShould Not Exceed EU Average

Sofia, February 11 (BTA) - In a statement about the mechanism of setting the minimum wage in Bulgaria, the Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations insists that the minimum to median wage ratio should not exceed the EU average.

The position was presented on Friday during a meeting with Labour Minister Gulub Donev with employer organizations.

Also, the business demands that the minimum wage in Bulgaria should not be below the poverty threshold in the country.

The statement says that outside these parameters, industries and companies may agree higher minimum wages.

The employers also urge for the ratification of the Convention 131 of the International Labour Organization. Until the next legislature begins work, the government, the trade unions and the employers may sign a tripartite agreement which will enact the principles of the Convention.

The business calls on the government to scrap seniority bonuses and on the Labour Ministry to sponsor legislative changes to abolish the minimum insurance incomes by economic activities and positions which are not applied across the EU and their agreement has in effect been suspended.
