Volya Party Leader Mareshki Stresses Importance of Forming Cabinet around Strategic Goals

Sofia, March 27 (BTA) - Volya [Will] party leader Vesselin Mareshki said, speaking at his first news conference after the March 26 elections, that the most important thing now is forming a stable government. Volya polled about 4.15 per cent of the votes, making it the fourth force in the next Parliament.

Mareshki said that the stable government should focus on several strategic goals, including the demographic crisis and governing the country to the benefit of the people. Other priorities are fighting corruption, cartels, monopolies, illegal trade, poverty, ensuing stable incomes, decent pay of doctors, teachers, and police.

Mareshki said that if invited by GERB to talks, Volya will accept. The party would take part in the governance if there is consensus about its platform.

Mareshki, who owns pharmacies and filling stations, said that Volya is ready to assume responsibility and take part in the government but that he personally does not plan to become a minister. Asked which ministry Volya feels best prepared to have, Mareshki said that the economy is his party' biggest strength. He said the being in power is not an end in itself for Volya and that if there is not consensus on the party's platform, it will remain in opposition. "Either we take part in power directly and carry responsibility, or we are in opposition and shine a light on the negatives," Mareshki said.

Dwelling on Bulgaria's relations with Turkey, the Volya leader said that they should be friendly and good-neighbourly. He said the the same as Bulgaria does not meddle in Turkey's internal affairs, Turkey should not do so in Bulgaria.

Mareshki said he expected better performance of Volya at the elections, but that the attacks against him cost the party votes. He said Volya will fight against fake news. Also, the party will demand repeat counting of the votes as it had received alerts about vote rigging.

Mareshki thanked all voters who had the will for development and supported his party.
