GERB, MRF to Work as Parties in Governance and Opposition

Sofia, April 12 (BTA) - Emerging from a meeting with Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chairman Mustafa Karadayi on Wednesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that no matter that the platforms of GERB and the MRF overlap in respect of many issues, the two parties will try to work well as formations in governance and opposition in the new Parliament. At the meeting GERB informed the MRF about its priorities and discussed the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council due in the first half of 2018, Brexit, financial and tax policies.

GERB is holding such meetings with all formations represented in the new Parliament which will hold its inaugural sitting on April 19.

Borissov reiterated his insistence about maximum support in Parliament, "given the upcoming EU Presidency, the international factors, and Bulgaria's neighbours". The GERB leader said that if the EU Presidency is endorsed as a main issue for the next year by all political forces and the policy-making takes place in Parliament, this will facilitate the work of the government and will enable all parliamentary-represented parties to take part, so that Bulgaria could reap benefits from the rotating EU Presidency. "Everyone is aware that if a government is not formed, and new elections are called, this will be hard and heavy for the country and the economy will collapse," Borissov said.
