53 Illegal Immigrants Discovered in Truck on Border with Romania

Rousse, on the Danube, April 23 (BTA) - Fifty-three illegal immigrants were discovered on Friday in a Bulgarian-registered truck on the Danube Bridge border checkpoint, the local border police office told BTA on Sunday.

The migrants are from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan and consist of 18 children, 13 women and 22 men. Most of them came from the Harmanli accommodation facility for foreigners. 

The border police said they wanted to get to the Netherlands. The adults have been arrested, while the children have been taken to shelters. The two truck drivers, who are Bulgarians, are also in custody.
