New Government Takes Office Thursday

Sofia, May 3 (BTA) - The ceremony for the handover of power to the newly appointed Council of Ministers will be held on Thursday, around 1 p.m. local time, after Parliament endorses the structure and line-up of the new government.

On Wednesday outgoing caretaker Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdjikov and his ministers had a meeting with President Rumen Radev who received a report on the work caretaker cabinet.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Gerdjikov said that the President gave a very high mark of the caretaker government.

Approached to comment the line-up of the next cabinet announced earlier in the day, Gerdjikov said that he "liked the names he heard" but did not yet have a view of the entire cabinet. Responding to a question, Gerdjikov expressed regret that caretaker Foreign Minister Radi Naidenov is not going to keep his post in the new cabinet. Gerdjikov described Naidenov as an exceptional professional and "a wonderful person for the post".
