Judges Association Urges Supreme Judicial Council Inspectorate to Look Into TZUM Controversy
Sofia, May 9 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Judges Association (BJA) on Tuesday urged the Supreme Judicial Council Inspectorate to look into the so-called TZUM-gate.
TZUM-gate broke out after a leak of secret videos which alluded to a controversial meeting between Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov and Sasho Donchev, founder and CEO of the private natural gas company Overgas and publisher of the influential "Sega" daily. The meeting took place in an office of businessman and politician Georgi Gergov, who was then a member of the leadership of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, in the building of Sofia's TZUM department store.
The Association says that the Inspectorate should watch for integrity, independence, possible conflict of interests and any actions which discredit the judiciary.
In late April, the Supreme Judicial Council refused to probe the matter.
