Former Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov Charged with Mismanagement

Sofia, May 9 (BTA) - Former Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov was charged with mismanagement. He is accused of signing disadvantageous contracts with service providers arranging the foreign travel of Foreign Ministry staff members.

Emerging from the Sofia Investigative Service where he spent some 30 minutes, he told reporters that he had done nothing wrong and that the purpose of the charges was "to have one more former minister seen going in and out of the Investigative Service".

Mitov was Foreign Minister in the second government of Boyko Borissov. He was nominated for the position of the country's top diplomat by the junior partner in the government coalition of GERB, the Right-wing Reformist Bloc.

The Defence Minister in the same government, Nikolay Nenchev, was charged with malfeasance in office for a contract with Poland for repairs of the Bulgarian Air Force's MiG-29 fighters. Nenchev says that the charges against him are politically motivated. In late February, the Sofia City Court have Nenchev's trial the go-ahead.
