Sofia, July 19 (BTA) - The former executive director of the NDK convention centre, Miroslav Borshosh, has been charged with misspending 1.7 million leva of NDK money. Speaking to the press on his way out of the Sofia Investigative Service, he said that the investigator refused to show him the evidence they had collected.

The money Borshosh is accused of misspending had been made available to prepare NDK for the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2018.

Borshosh said that he does not regret anything he had done during the two years as executive director. "Everything we have achieved, was done lawfully." He declined further comment and said he will offer his take on the situation during a hearing of a parliamentary ad hoc committee next Tuesday.

Miroslav Borshosh was dismissed as NDK Executive Director on June 26 over alleged systematic non-compliance with instructions from the NDK owner and unsound financial management of the Congress Centre that jeopardize the ongoing refurbishment of the NDK building to meet the requirements of the EU Presidency. Borshosh countered that he refused to sign any public procurements connected with the preparation of NDK for the EU Presidency under pressure and in conditions which were at odds with the rules and the law. He was subsequently reinstated to the post after a meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, only to withdraw later for the duration of probes into NDK's financing that had opened after an alert from a member of the NDK management.
