Sofia, July 25 (BTA) - The parliamentary ad hoc committee appointed to look into the spending of funding allocated to prepare the NDK convention centre for Bulgaria's EU Presidency in 2018 Tuesday recommended that the National Audit Office make an audit of NDK for 2015-2017. The ad hoc committee's report passed with 10 votes in favour and nine against.

The centre's former executive director Miroslav Borshosh was charged with mismanagement and misspending of 1.7 million leva last week, while a month ago he was dismissed from the post, only to be reappointed and subsequently to step down for the duration of the probes into NDK's financing.

According to the MPs, the audit will analyse the overall picture, not just individual facts.

The MPs concluded that there are doubts about violations, but the competent authorities should have their say.

Rumen Gechev (Bulgarian Socialist Party) said Borshosh enjoyed political protection.

Reacting to this statement, Toma Bikov (GERB) said that this was not evident from the hearings and documents, and that it was the present government that had dismissed Borshosh.

Velislava Krusteva (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) commented that the committee's report did not answer the main question - where the money has gone.
