Sofia, September 18 (BTA) - The Bulgarian government supports the Belt and Road initiative and is making an effort to see this country an active participant in its implementation, Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said. He was speaking at Monday's international conference of the Black Sea dimension of the belt and Road initiative organized by the Diplomatic Institute and 16+1 format of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

Bulgaria hails the Belt and Road as yet another platform for civilizational and cultural communication and prosperity, Georgiev said. In his words, the development of the initiative has recently demonstrated the great opportunities opening up before the countries for the implementation of significant projects enhancing economic development and better connectivity. It helps strategic partnership and better coordination between the EU and China, Georgiev said.

Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Zhang Haizhou spoke of the importance of globalization and its impact on economic life. The Black Sea region is an important geographic destination and the potential for cooperation is enormous. China sets great store by promoting pragmatic cooperation with the countries in the region, Bulgaria included, the Ambassador commented.
