Sofia, October 4 (BTA) - Parliament rejected GERB MP Delyan Dobrev's resignation with 97 votes in favour, 99 against and 19 abstentions.

On Tuesday Dobrev tendered his resignation in Parliament over an investigation by journalist and Socialist MP Elena Yoncheva, which uncovered that friends and relatives of Dobrev have been appointed to positions at municipal and state structures without competitions, which in turn has allegedly led to corruption and influenced the outcome of public procurements on municipal level.

Dobrev's resignation was rejected during the first round of voting in Parliament, which is why he demanded a second vote, explaining that his resignation is a personal act and he would really like to step down.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms voted in favour of terminating the MP powers of Dobrev, who was minister of energy in Borissov's second cabinet. GERB, the United Patriots and Volya voted against or abstained.
