site.btaBulgarian Export Up 12.9 Per Cent in January-August 2017 YoY

Sofia, October 10 (BTA) - Exports from Bulgaria increased by 12.9 per cent in January-August 2017, year on year, to reach a value of 34,093.2 million leva, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute on Tuesday.  In August, the total export totalled 4,320 million leva, up by 7.3 per cent up from this time last year.

In January-August, Bulgaria imported goods worth 38,122.3 million leva (at CIF prices), which was 16.2 per cent more than this time last year. In August, the total import increased by 10.8 per cent from the same month of 2016 to reach a total of 4,922.5 million leva.

The total foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) in January-August 2017 was negative, amounting to 4,029.1 million leva. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of freight and insurance costs of imports), the total foreign trade balance remained negative, at 2,187.6 million leva.

In August, foreign trade continued to show a deficit of 602.5 million leva (at export FOB - import CIF prices) or 357.4 million leva (at FOB/FOB prices).

In January - August 2017, Bulgarian exports to third countries increased by 16.8 per cent from this time last year and amounted to 11,693.7 million leva, while imports grew by 26.7 per cent and added up to 13,932.8 million leva (at CIF prices). The biggest volume of goods were imported from Russia, Turkey, China, and Serbia.

In August 2017, exports to third countries picked up by 3.3 per cent from the same month of 2016 to 1,398.2 million leva, and imports increased by 8.6 per cent to 1,797.1 million leva.

The total foreign trade balance with third countries (export FOB - import CIF) in January-August 2017 was negative, at 2,239.1 million leva. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of freight and insurance costs of imports), the balance remained negative, at 1,557.9 million leva.

In August, foreign trade with third countries (export FOB - import CIF) was negative, amounting to 407.9 million leva.

In January-July 2017, Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 11.2 per cent from the like period of 2016 and amounted to 19,468.7 million leva. Imports grew by 10.7 per cent and added up to 21,064.1 million leva (at CIF prices).

In July, exports to the EU increased by 10.7 per cent from this time last year to reach 3,123.1 million leva, while imports grew by 2.5 per cent and amounted to 2,996.6 million leva.

The total foreign trade balance with the EU (export FOB - import CIF) in January-July 2017 was negative, amounting to 1,595.4 million leva. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of freight and insurance costs of imports), the total foreign trade balance remained negative, at 591.4 million leva.
