Sofia, October 19 (BTA) - Parliament Thursday overcame President Rumen Radev's veto on amendments to the Defence and Armed Forces Act.

At least 121 votes in favour were needed to overcome the veto. After a first voting failed to achieve this, the MPs held a second voting at the proposal of Danail Kirilov MP of GERB where 131 members voted in favour, 71 voted against (mostly from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and BSP for Bulgaria), and 20 abstained.

In his veto, announced on October 9, Radev challenged a rule whereby persons who have acquired a senior military rank should be presented to the National Assembly's Defence Committee. The act amending the Defence and Armed Forces Act was adopted by the National Assembly on second reading on September 27.
