Sofia, October 20 (BTA) - The 2nd Regional Meeting of the Internal Security Units of the Balkan Countries' Interior Ministries was held here on Thursday.

Addressing the heads of anti-corruption units and delegates, Interior Minister Valentin Radev said security cooperation means planning and acting together flexibly and quickly at interdepartmental, regional and international level so as to effectively fight crime and corruption and safeguard national, regional and European security. "The threats to internal security posed by terrorism and illegal migration raise new issues for each country and we have to react quickly," he said.

Radev praised the readiness of the internal security units of the interior ministries of Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria to deal together with the new manifestations of crime and corruption linked to terrorism and the illegal trafficking in people, arms and drugs.

Deputy Interior Minister Stefan Balabanov commended the initiative for creating a Network for Enhanced Regional Cooperation of Internal Security Units (NERCISU), which is under way. He assured the delegates that Bulgaria's Interior Ministry would continue to underpin the efforts to provide security in the Balkan Region.
