Sofia, December 6 (BTA) - Bulgaria's gross domestic product (GDP) nearly doubled in the past twenty years, and the export increased sixfold, Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Manolev said here Wednesday as quoted by his Ministry. He was speaking at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Bulgarian Economic Forum.

In 1997, the GDP was some 45 billion leva and the export 3.7 billion euro. In late 2016, the GDP was 84 billion leva and the export over 24 billion euro.

Manolev commented that the facts show the long road that has been walked by the state institutions, the business community, trade unions and NGOs. "Today we know for sure that it was the right direction we took," the deputy minister commended.

He thanked the Bulgarian Economic Forum for always making sure to put the important economic issues in the focus of public attention.

The Bulgarian Economic Forum was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization working to promote the investment opportunities in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe, to encourage networking among companies from Bulgaria and Southeast Europe, and to facilitate dialogue between businesses and the state institutions.
