A national scientific conference on the April Uprising and Bulgarians’ national liberation struggles in Macedonia opened in Razlog on Thursday. It brought together nearly 20 scholars from across Bulgaria.
The forum is organized by the Macedonian Scientific Institute, the Vasil Levski Foundation, the Vasil Levski All-Bulgarian Committee, Razlog Municipality and the Historical Museum in Razlog.
Opening the forum, Macedonian Scientific Institute Chair Milen Mihov said it was not just a regular event for a scholarly community addressing an important and compelling research topic, but also an event of public and national significance. “It is such because it is taking place here, in one of the finest Bulgarian towns in Macedonia, which offers a serious answer to many present-day claims spread through modern technology, claims that distort history and shape ideas that have nothing to do with the past of the Macedonian region,” Mihov said.
Slavi Slavov moderated the first day’s proceedings. Scholars from the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, the Historical Museum in Razlog, the Regional History Museum in Blagoevgrad and the Macedonian Scientific Institute presented papers at the conference.
Representatives of the Church History Museum at Rila Monastery, the Dimitar Talev Regional Library in Blagoevgrad and the Vasil Levski National Museum in Karlovo also delivered papers, alongside independent researchers, journalists and local historians.
