Baku, January 16 (BTA Special Correspondent Antoan Nikolov) - Prime Ministers Borissov of Bulgaria and Artur Rasizade of Azerbaijan inaugurated the first ever scheduled air service linking Baku to Sofia at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport on Tuesday.

The flights will be carried out once a week by Azerbaijan's low-cost Buta Airways, which is a subsidiary of national airline Azerbaijan Airlines. This makes Bulgaria the first destination in the EU to which Buta Airways will provide direct flights.

According to the two prime ministers, the direct air service between their countries' capitals will contribute to the development of the bilateral business and economic ties, and will promote tourism in Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. "Now Bulgarians can travel to this wonderful country for just 29 euro," Borissov said.

Following the landing of the first flight from Baku on Sofia Airport, Transport, Information Technology and Communications Minister Ivaylo Moskovski will inaugurate the scheduled air service between Sofia and Baku on Bulgarian soil. The event is organized jointly with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria Nargiz Gurbanova.
