A reconnaissance drone discovered on the beach in Byala, on the Black Sea, has been transported to the Naval Base in Varna by a specialized team, the headquarters of the Bulgarian Navy in the Black Sea city said on Tuesday.

The unit for reconnaissance, identification, extraction, transport and disposal of unexploded ordnance was activated by order of the deputy commander of the Navy, following a request from the regional governor of Varna and approval by the Chief of Defence.

During the operation, the object was identified as a reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle. The specialized team transported the device to the naval base under strict safety procedures, the statement said.

Earlier this month, a similar operation was carried out by a team from the Naval Base in Burgas after a drone was washed ashore northeast of the Elenite resort complex.
