Vidin, on the Danube, February 12 (BTA) - The Bulgarian News Agency's 8th annual White Bird Award was conferred on the Mayor of Ruzhnitsi Municipality, Alexander Alexandrov, for significant public contribution in the northwestern cities of Vidin and Montana. The silver statuette was made by sculptor Alexander Proynov-APER.

The former history teacher puts his heart and soul into serving the people and has managed to halve unemployment in his municipality, provide a warm lunch to over 700 people, while his administration maintains two of the largest stadiums in the region and assists four football clubs with their activities.

BTA Director General Maxim Minchev said during the ceremony at the BTA Press Club in Vidin that Alexandrov is an example of an active mayor with a working administration. Thanks to people like him, soon Bulgaria's Northwest will not be mentioned as the poorest region, but rather as being an example of reconstruction and development thanks to the joint efforts by all ethnicities, Michev noted.

This year's award ceremony is dedicated to the Bulgarian News Agency's 120th anniversary, which will be marked on February 16.
