Hosting the start of the Giro d’Italia is a great honour and responsibility for the Nessebar Municipality, Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov said, as quoted by the municipal press centre on Monday. The town, part of UNESCO’s global family, will be a worthy host of one of the most impressive sporting events in the world, he added.

“I believe this will leave a lasting mark on the history of the town and will open new horizons for the development of tourism across the entire region,” Dimitrov added. He said that the international event is expected to attract thousands of visitors, participants and media from around the world, reinforcing Nessebar as a destination for sport and tourism.

On May 8, the start of the first stage of the international cycling race Giro d’Italia will begin from Nessebar.
