site.btaParliament Chair Karayancheva Meets with Representatives of Bulgarian Community in Washington

Washington, April 16 (BTA) - Meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Washington on Sunday, National Assembly Chair Tsveta Karayancheva said, as quoted by Parliament's press centre, that she will raise the question about the US visa requirements for Bulgarian nationals at the highest parliamentary level during her talks with Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Karayancheva is in Washington to attend the Global Parliamentary Conference, co-organized by the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund at the World Bank Group headquarters on Monday and Tuesday. Budget and Finance Committee Chair Menda Stoyanova is also attending.

Karayancheva informed the Bulgarian community's representatives about the successful running of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency, and put an emphasis on the priorities related to the EU perspective of the Western Balkan countries and the leading role of Bulgaria and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the region and the whole of Europe.

On their part, the representatives thanked for the funding that the State provides for Bulgarian schools in the US and the world. They asked questions about Bulgaria's policies for expatriates.

Karayancheva assured them that this is a priority for the Bulgarian institutions and they pay special attention to the work with Bulgarians abroad. That is why the parliamentary Committee on the Policies for Bulgarians Abroad has been set up and functions successfully, she added.

Stoyanova presented Bulgaria's economic indices, the development of the economy as a whole, the increase of incomes and the demand for highly educated and qualified cadres.

The Bulgarian Ambassador to the USA also attended the meeting.
