Sofia, June 21 (BTA) - A total of 245 newspapers  with  an  annual   circulation  of  196,288,000 were published last year, which is by 17  newspapers (6.5 per cent) and by 32,720,000 copies (14.3 per cent) less  than in 2016, the National Statistical Institude said Thursday.
 
 The newspapers published in 2017 were distributed by periodicity and  circulation as follows: 37 daily newspapers  (15.1 per cent of all  published newspapers) with a circulation of 124,640,000; 13 newspapers   issued  two to three times a week (5.3 per cent) with a circulation of  2,192,000; 105 weekly newspaperes (42.9 per cent) with a circulation of  66,557,000; and 90 newspapers issued  less  than once a week (36.7 per  cent) with a circulation of 2,899,000.
 
 According to their target group, the highest relative share belonged to  newspapers  on political, religious  and  cultural  issues: 125 titles  (51 per cent) with an annual circulation of 101,032,000.  
 
 The highest number of newspapers were published in the capital, 116   titles (47.3 per cent of all published newspapers in the country).
 
 A total of 240 newspapers (nearly 98 per cent) were published in Bulgarian, five in Turkish, one in English, and one in German.
 
 Last year saw the publishing of 510 magazines  and  93  bulletins, down  by 4.3 per cent and 7.9 per cent, respectively, compared to 2016. Of  these, 78 magazines and bulletins were published in a foreign language  and had an annual circulation of 183,000, the highest number belonging  to those published in English, 71 titles with a circulation of 148,000,  followed by Romanian with two titles and a circulation of 2,000, Turkish  with one title and a circulation of 31,000, and French with one title  and a circulation of 1,000.
