Sofia, January 17 (BTA) - Goethe Institut in Sofia continues organizing a series of discussions, titled "Philosophical Evenings at the Library" in 2022. The first discussion this year will take place on January 27 on the topic of Weberian social diagnosis.

The first meeting of the series of discussions was held in November 2021 on the book Minima Moralia by Theodor W. Adorno. The discussions' goal is to focus on the essential basics of a topic, instead of the concomitant, the marginal, or the mainstream. Prominent humanists with an academic-theoretical and applied-practical attitude will invite their guests to participate in intellectual conversations and debates. Mundane and contemporary issues will be analyzed in the context of philosophical paradigms, the organizers noted.

On January 27, participants will discuss the Weberian social diagnosis of modernity and its usefulness to contemporary society. Sociologist Max Weber was a "real social philosopher," said from the Institute. They added that the 100th anniversary of Weber's death in 2020 was not celebrated due to the pandemic, even though the past century's social theory has been marked by Weber's ideas.

The event is organized together with the Critique and Humanism Publishing House, which has published several Weberian books in the past years, compiled, translated, and prefaced by Prof. Kolyo Koev.

The meeting will be attended by Prof. Stiliyan Yotov and internationally recognized Weberian expert and translator, Prof. Kolyo Koev. The organizers invite those interested in the discussion to join live at the Institute's library or online - the event will be streaming on the Facebook pages of both the Institute and the publishing house.

All official requirements for anti-epidemic measures apply for participants who wish to join the discussion live at the library, the organizers stressed.
