Sofia, July 10 (BTA) - The wife and the child of a Bulgarian citizen who also holds Turkish citizenship were among those killed in Sunday's train crash in the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdag, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday. This emerged after a new thorough check of the personal data of the victims.

The Bulgarian citizen's wife held only Turkish citizenship. Their baby, who was under one year old, was a Bulgarian citizen by right of birth because one of his parents is a Bulgarian citizen, the Foreign Ministry explained. However, the Turkish authorities consider the baby a Turkish citizen, which is why they officially stated there were no Bulgarians among the victims.

The consulates-general of Bulgaria in Edirne and Istanbul are conducting additional checks to see if there are Bulgarian citizens among the injured and hospitalized passengers.

The Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the bereaved.

Twenty-four people were killed after a train carrying 362 passengers came off the rails in Tekirdag Province on Sunday due to heavy rains and landslides.
