Bulgarians Consume
Ever More Products
Containing Palm Oil - Expert

Lovech, North Central Bulgaria, August 13 (BTA) - According to Ivan Gruncharov, member of the Bulgarian Association of Dairy Processors' Governing Board, in the last several years Bulgarians have been buying ever more products containing palm oil. For example, in 2017 they ate a total of 12,000 tonnes of palm oil in the form of cheese, he commented for BTA on Monday.

The expert recalled that an ordinance has entered into force that bans the production of imitating products and the use of palm oil in dairy products at dairy farms.

According to him, Bulgarians should realize the harm caused by such fats, which accumulate in the human body and are hard to process by the organism.

One of the determining factors of a cheese's quality is its price, because the ordinary consumer can hardly determine whether a product is genuine or imitating based on its appearance, Gruncharov said. In his words, Bulgaria has quality products of quality milk and dairy farms at a good level. If they want, Bulgarians eat quality products, he added.

There are over 260 dairy processing enterprises in Bulgaria, of which 30 to 40 firms use vegetable fat, the expert said.
