This Year's World Meeting of Bulgarian Media
to Be Held in Skopje
October 24-28

Sofia, August 29 (BTA) - The 14th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media will be held in the Macedonian capital of Skopje between October 24 and 28, said here on Wednesday BTA Director General Maxim Minchev at a news conference.

This year's meeting, organized by BTA and the Association of Bulgarian Media Abroad, will be mottoed "Media and Memory". The Macedonian Information Agency is the main partner.

Among the forum's subtopics are "Patriotism's Different Faces", "Business and National Duty", "Propaganda against Journalism", but those invited can also propose topics.

Minchev expects the forum to be attended by representatives of around 40 media outlets from over two dozen different countries. He believes that Skopje's proximity will allow many Bulgarian media representatives to join the meeting, together with politicians, representatives of cultural institutions, the academic community, intellectuals and businessmen. The organizers plan a richer cultural programme, including a concert, exhibitions and book launches.

BTA's Director General noted the exceptionally positive changes in the relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia. They continue getting warmer and both countries must take advantage of this, as it is in their interest, Minchev commented. Holding the World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Skopje will benefit and aid Bulgaria's national policy of improving relations with Macedonia.

BTA's Director for culture communication Georgi Lozanov noted that, in the past year, the Bulgarian-Macedonian relations have started to become a positive example of how prejudices can be put aside and people can communicate here and now.

The 14th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media will be the latest edition of the prestigious forum, organized by BTA and the Association of Bulgarian Media Abroad, and held since 2005 in Sofia, Chicago, Rome, Madrid, Varna and Bourgas, Vienna, the Hague, Bucharest, Plovdiv and Veliko Turnovo, Bosilegrad and Caribrod (Dimitrovgrad), Athens, Prague and Chisinau. The meetings can be described as national events of major public impact, receiving broad publicity in and outside Bulgaria. RY/MY
