EC Congratulates Bulgaria on
EU Presidency's
Achievements

Sofia, September 4 (BTA) - In a letter to the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the EU, European Commission (EC) Secretary-General Martin Selmayr says he has been strongly impressed by the achievements of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2018, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry reported Tuesday.

The letter reads that the EC values the close and constructive relations built during the Bulgarian EU Presidency, as well as the achieved progress on the EU's agenda.

Selmayr puts an emphasis on the success of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Sofia on May 17, which confirmed the commitment to the region's EU perspective, and on the completion of 46 legislative dossiers during the Bulgarian EU Presidency.

The EC Secretary-General also expresses gratitude to Bulgaria for: the progress in the area of the banking union; the achievement of a negotiation mandate for the post-Cotonou agreement, which will outline the common framework of the relations between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries in the next two decades; the reform of the Common European Asylum System and the Dublin Regulation; and the fast launch of the dialogue on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
