President Radev:
Bulgaria Needs Modern
and Combatworthy Army

Sofia, November 16 (BTA) - "The world is dynamic and full of contradictions which means that Bulgaria needs a modern and combatworthy army interoperable with those of its allies," said President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Rumen Radev on Friday. He addressed a formal meeting at the G.S.Rakovsky Military Academy on the occasion of Land Forces Day.

The head of State voiced hope that the rearmament of the Land Forces will be implemented to attain a new technological level which will enable Bulgarian servicemen to fulfill their potential.

Radev said that this would not solve all problems, which are particularly serious in the Land Forces, where understaffing is heaviest and there is need for much more attention to military equipment, individual equipment, the social status and the conditions for career development.

"I am convinced that all these problems will be resolved because such are the times and Bulgaria relies on its armed forces and land forces," said the President.

"The Bulgarian land forces are an integral part of the Bulgarian people because with their unrivalled bravery they have defended and served loyally to their people, have proved themselves as central to Bulgaria's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, have been through many trials and have always instilled respect in their adversaries and allies," said Radev.

"Despite the challenges, the Bulgarian land forces continue to forge new capabilities and interoperability with Bulgaria's allies," said Radev. LY/PP
