Sofia, January 7 (BTA) - A total of 139 animals were born in Sofia Zoo in 2018, Sofia Municipality said. This is a record-high number in the history of the zoo.

There were 15 more captive animals born in the zoo compared with 2017, including jackal, antelope, fallow deer, kangaroo, Egyptian vulture, toucan and coati.

In 2018 the zoo had ring-tailed lemur, green aracari and Harris's hawk births for the first time.

Improvement of the animals' habitats will be a priority for Sofia Zoo in 2019. The repairs and renovation of the monkey cages are to be completed during the year, as well as some new enclosures for the jackals and hyenas. LN/DT
