July 5 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko
Borissov Friday addressed the Western Balkans Summit of the
Berlin Process initiative. Borissov said, quoted by the
information service of the Bulgarian government, that the
keyword is trust, this is what the countries participating in
the Berlin Process must work on.
Borissov said that the European perspective of the Western
Balkans does not have an alternative. "The European perspective
is a guarantee for security and stability in the region,
sustainable economic development, social prosperity and pressing
on with the reforms in these countries," he said, noting that
the enlargement of the EU with the six countries in the Western
Balkans remains one of the foreign policy priorities of
Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that for Bulgaria it is
important whereby the Western Balkans never ever return to the
state of conflicts, opposition and nationalism of the 1990s.
Borissov noted the importance in this of the Berlin Process,
saying that Bulgaria welcomes the initiative whereby the open
issues between the six countries be discussed in its format.
"The Western Balkan countries must do their best also for the
development of good neighbourly relations with their EU
neighbours," Borissov said. He gave as a good example the Treaty
of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation signed
between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia which he
said made possible giving a timeframe for starting accession
negotiations with North Macedonia.
Borissov spoke about the contributions of the Berlin Process.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister once again noted the importance of
Transport Corridor 8, and of the construction of gas
interconnectors between the countries in the region. RY/ZH
