Bulgarian PM Borissov
Confers with Turkish President
Erdogan in Sarajevo

Sarajevo, July 8 (BTA special correspondent Antoan Nikolov) - "Peace and dialogue are the best diplomats," Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan here on Monday evening. The two leaders conferred within the framework of the South-East European Cooperation Process Summit in the Bosnian capital.

Borissov and Erdogan considered the deepening of bilateral cooperation and Turkey's contribution to keeping the migrant flow to the Bulgarian border under control.

The Bulgarian head of government stressed the importance of the sustainable advancement of the bilateral partnership, which is part of Bulgaria's foreign policy. "Turkey is Bulgaria's nextdoor neighbour, an ally in NATO and a key partner in migration control, counter-terrorism, energy supplies and security, transport corridors, crop farming and animal husbandry," Borissov said. He noted that this country will continue to be guided by the principles of good-neighbourliness, mutual respect, equality and non-intervention in internal affairs.

The sides commended the invigoration of the political and economic dialogue between Bulgaria and Turkey. They emphasized the good progress in tourism, energy and transport in recent years.

"The EU candidate countries, including Turkey, are our nextdoor neighbours, and building a region of stability, security and prosperity, in which the EU values and principles are guaranteed, is in our best interest," the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out. LI/LG
