Thessaloniki, November 15 (BTA) - Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Rosen Zhelyazkov ,and the Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis expressed mutual interest in the continuation of the project for the creation of a "Thessaloniki - Kavala - Alexandroupolis - Bourgas - Varna - Rousse" railway corridor, the Transport Ministry press center said on Friday.

The two ministers are participating in the Fourth Summit in Thessaloniki, a forum that brings together government and industry representatives from the region and from around the world.

Minister Zhelyazkov stressed that in 2019 the two countries have made progress in negotiations on the multimodal corridor, while at the same time the Bulgarian side is proposing a meeting with the new Greek government.

In discussions about improving connectivity through infrastructure, Minister Zhelyazkov pointed out that effective road links have been established between major cities in the region. Ha added that despite that there are still some unconnected railway sections and existing routes need modernization as well.

Minister Zhelyazkov raised the issue of reducing transit time at border crossings in the region. He pointed out the use of a new generation of services to speed up transport processes. RY/DT
